Delta community at loggerhead with oil firm over electricity supply

The last may not have been heard over the
lingering electricity crisis rocking the
Kokodiagbene community in Gbaramatu
Kingdom of Warri South West local government
area of Delta state and American oil giant,
Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) as representatives
of the community have been summoned for
security meeting.

NAIJ.com gathered that the representatives of the
community were invited to the state Security
Council meeting scheduled for Wednesday, May
3, 2017 to deliberate further on issues the
community is having with the oil firm.
AC Abuah, the director of security services
department, Governor's Office, Asaba who
invited representatives of the community, said
the invitation was to deliberate on issues the
community is having with Chevron.

Contacted, the Chairman of the community,
Comrade Sheriff Mulade, confirmed the
invitation.
Mulade who said: “We are ready to appear again at the
meeting," added: "We are not going to succumb to any
intimation, blackmail and threat to our lives. We have made
our position very clear on this issue and there is no going
back.

“The state government should prevail on Chevron to do the
needful by providing the suffering people of Kokodiagbene
community with electricity.
“We are not going to back out on our plan to relocate to
the Utonana flow station being operated by Chevron to
enjoy electricity with the staff of the company.
“ We are going to make this point known on Wednesday at
the meeting in Asaba like we have been doing. ”
Hundreds of indigenes of Kokodiagbene in
Gbaramatu kingdom had on February 1,2017,
stormed the Utonana flow station operated by
Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) protesting against
the company's alleged refusal to supply
electricity to the community and threatened to
shut down operations of the Company at the
expiration of a 14--day ultimatum.

According to the ommunity, all peaceful means
made in the last few months for the company to
meet their demand yielded no results and they
have threatened to go ahead with their relocation
to the Utonana flow station to enjoy electricity
with staff of the company.
