Ex-Minister of FCT, Jumoke Akinjide arraigns by EFCC for N650m fraud.


On Thursday, the  22 of June, 2017, The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC,  arraigned a former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Jumoke Akinjide and one Olanrewaju Otiti before Justice J.O Abdul-Malik of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State on an amended 12-count charge bordering on money laundering to the tune of N650 million.
While Akinjide and Otiti are facing trial on counts one to 12 of the amended charge, the third accused person, Senator Ayo Ademola Adeseun, who failed to appear in court today, is facing trial on counts one to 24.

South African actress Celia Kriel,was shot by unknown gunmen

 

South African actress, Celia Kriel, was shot by some unknown gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday 21 June, 2017.
The actress who was shot at her home in Randburg, is said to be in a critical but stable condition after she was rushed to the hospital, Buzz SA reported.
According to Buzz SA, Netcare 911 paramedic responded to a smallholding in the Randburg area, north of Johannesburg, for a shooting incident at 00h07 on Wednesday morning.
“Reports from the scene indicate that several gunmen had entered the premises of a popular actress, shots were fired and she sustained two serious gunshot wounds,” Netcare said.

Some Suspected herdsmen allegedly rape, behead woman in Edo state


Some Suspected herdsmen allegedly raped and beheaded a woman identified to be Margaret Udiamehi at Ekpoma, Esan West local government area of Edo state. According to reports, the woman  left her home for her farm on Tuesday June 20th. After she failed to return home, her family members went in search of her.

Radio host resigned just bucase he was asked not to criticize president Trump

A radio host at Pennsylvania has resigned after he was asked by radio management not to criticize President Donald Trump again on air.
Bruce Bond tells Pennlive.com he's "very sad" he could not continue in his position with WTPA FM as he posted a letter from the station's general manager on Facebook telling him it is 'not permissible' to talk disrespectfully of the president.

US mourns the death of Otto Warmbier who died days after he was released from North Korea


US President, Donald Trump is mourning the death of Otto Warmbier, who was held in North Korea for 15 months.the 22 year old Otto Warmbier died barely one week after the US and his family secured the release of Warmbier ,who had been in a coma for about a year, from North Korea.
Mourning him, Donald Trump and his wife offered their deepest condolences, thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Otto Warmbier saying:

Hausa Traders Clash With Youths in onne, Rivers State

Two people were killed as a result of a clash between Hausa traders and a group of Onne youths in Eleme LGA of Rivers State on Monday.
According to reports, the youths, who claimed to be members of a local government task force had gone to Opaku Park in Onne known to be a Hausa community and asked the traders to pay their daily levies.

One of the Hausa traders according to the Punch, refused to pay, a decision which angered the task force members.
The ensuing disagreement degenerated into a serious clash between the groups that led to the death of one of the task force members.
An Hausa trader was later found dead at the end of the clash between the task force members and the traders.
A member of the community, Franklin, said some community members later joined the fracas and set a mosque ablaze.
A church was also said to have been razed during the free-for-all that affected the hitherto peaceful community.
The State Police Public Relation Officer, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the incident.
“We are aware of the development, though I am yet to get full details. We have swung into action and our men have been deployed in the area to maintain calm.”

lassa out break as it kills student in Anambra State and 65 other persons under surveillance

It's was confirmed by the Anambra State authorities that a nursing student has died of Lassa Fever, while 65 others are being monitored.
Speaking to some  newsmen in Awka on Monday, the Public Health Director  , State Ministry of Health, Dr Emmanuel Okafor, said that the deceased was a student in one private nursing school in Nkpor, Idemili North.he added  that the lady was admitted at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching

eight notorious kidnappers arrested at Abuja-Kaduna Expressway by the police

Eight notorious kidnappers that terrorize the Abuja-Kaduna expressway have been arrested by the police .

The suspects and their gang leader were arrested by operatives of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris Intelligence Response Team (IRT) at the weekend.


Recovered from the suspects wer various automatic assault rifles, magazines, cutlasses and charms.

Those arrested include the gang leader, Adamu Mamman aka Master, 35, who hails from Amana village in Kaduna State, his 2ic Ali Rabo aka Blacky from Liman Ibada village, Kaduna State, Umar Antijo, 27, from Rijana village.



Aside being the gang's leader, Ali is said to be the main informant of the gang. He is said to have provided the gang with most of the informations on the attack and kidnapping of victims including a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).

Also arrested are, Shehu Idris Shagari, 27, and Awwalu Ahmadu aka Mota, 27, who is a receiver of stolen goods.

A police source said that Shehu is the third in command and the gang's armorer while Babangida Abdullahi ,31, Usman Abdulmumin and Ahmad Abdullahi 31 were described as the gang's foot soldiers.


Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Moshood Jimoh, said that the arrest of the eight suspects is sequel to series of complaints to the IGP on the notorious activities of the gang along the Abuja-Kaduna highway.

He said that sequel to the complaints, directed Abba Kyari, an Assistant Commissioner of Police to deployed his men along with those from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) to the area.
He said that after weeks of investigation on the intelligence report recovered, the team arrested the eight suspects from their hideouts.

The gang leader,  his 2nd in command, and the third in command along with the five other gang members were arrested between 15 and 16 of June, 2017.
"The suspects admitted that they actually kidnapped some people on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway. They said that that they decided to go to see their respective families in their villages after releasing their victims before they were arrested.
"Some of them were arrested at Maraban Jos, Anguwa Pama, Sabon Gayan and Rijana village all in Kaduna State. All the suspects arrested have confessed to several kidnapping of motorist along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.
"They admitted kidnapping DSP Munir attached to Airwing Force Headquarters Abuja, a retired Police Sergeant, a driver to the Chairman Senate Committee on Police Affairs, as well as five students of the Amadu Bello University (ABU) and Nuhu Bamalli University.
"The kidnapped students were identified as Idris Goga, Simon Terna, Kazzah Bulus, Ibrahim Kalin, and Augustine Climax. Augustine was was later killed by the gang and his corpse dumped in a river by the kidnappers.
"Many of their victims including the Police DSP have Positively identified the gang leader his, 2ic, 3ic and informant among others as the ones responsible for their abduction. Suspects further confessed that's hey decided to go to their respective villages because of the massive deployment of security forces to their area of Operations by the IGP.
"They said that most of their gang members are relocating from Rijana village to their respective home towns. They further confessed that there are two major groups of Kidnappers Operating within Rijana Axis of the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway. Suspects are assisting IRT operatives in tracing the Second Group. Victim Phones, N 17,000 made up of N500 fresh mints belonging to victims, SIM Cards, Charms, Cutlasses and two pairs of Army Uniforms were recovered from the Kidnappers".

France breaks wold record by electing 233 women into Parliament

The government France on Sunday evening  recorded a vote of 233 women into parliament, after President Emmanuel Macron's decision to field a gender balanced candidate list for his victorious Republic on the Move (LREM) party.

Of the 577 newly elected lawmakers, 233 were female, beating the previous record of 155 set after the last election.
The new record saw the French country leapfrogging from 64th to 17th in the world rankings of female parliamentary representation and to 6th place in Europe, overtaking Britain and Germany, according to Inter-parliamentary Union data compiled at the start of June.

The report also revealed that Female representation in the National Assembly has risen steadily, from 12.3 percent at the 2002 election to 38.6 percent this time.

LREM, which won an overwhelming majority inSunday’s ballot, had the highest proportion of women elected, at 47 percent.

“For the first time under the (postwar) Fifth Republic, the National Assembly will be deeply renewed, more diverse, younger,” the party’s acting president, Catherine Barbaroux, said.

“But above all, allow me to rejoice, because this is a historic event for the representation of women in the National Assembly', she added.
